'Team Romania' logo featured in BranD, the design magazine from Hong Kong
BranD’s 22nd issue explores the use of patterns in design
BranD — a prominent international magazine on multidisciplinary communication design, published in Hong Kong — features the 'Team Romania' logo, created by Brandient for the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (COSR), in its issue no. 22. The issue, titled ‘No more rules’, is focused on design works that make use of patterns — these classic visual elements that nevertheless "explore the limits of design" and "never restrain creativity, freedom or innovation", according to Nicole Lo, BranD Executive Editor-in-Chief. We were invited to submit the 'Team Romania' logo as part of the chapter dedicated to geometrical patterns.
The logo is part of the rebranding of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee earlier this year, with a dual identity solution to cater both to the institutional and the marketing needs of the Olympic organisation. The inspiration for the 'Team Romania' identity came from traditional, folkloric Romanian motifs, which are known for their complicated geometrical patterns and deep symbolical roots. The folk motif chosen as main inspiration was the Romanian ‘hora’ dance, which symbolizes the idea of celebration, joy, happiness, playfulness and, in this particular case, the idea of national beauty, unity and pride.
