Help net
From a competition-centric mindset to a consumer-centric one — repositioning a 250-outlet pharmacy leader.
HelpNet is one of the leading pharma chains in Romania, renowned for its strong reputation in the industry. With a network of over 250 outlets primarily located in urban areas, it had grown organically over two decades into one of the country’s most respected pharmacy names.
HelpNet operates in a market that is both highly regulated and fiercely competitive, with customers’ budget constraints adding additional pressure. However, this market remains open to segmentation, and growth is typically driven by increased usage of ancillary products such as cosmetics and nutritional supplements. Brandient was tasked with the rebranding of HelpNet, specifically revisiting the company’s positioning and updating the visual identity, as well as streamlining various brand manifestations for brand alignment.
The engagement opened with a brand audit, which confirmed a chain widely respected for its service and professionalism but operating without a clearly articulated brand idea or a consistent visual identity. From that diagnosis Brandient framed a single strategic imperative: move HelpNet from a competition-centric mindset — where the only conversation in the category is price — to a consumer-centric one, where the brand earns preference on the strength of the relationship it builds. Two differentiation routes were developed and presented with their full implications: a competence-and-experience platform that elevates the pharmacist into a trusted health adviser and makes the in-store experience the brand’s defining touchpoint, and a more user-centric "live your health" platform that positions HelpNet closer to a modern wellness company. Several alternative directions were formally examined and set aside, so the choice the client made was a choice between two fully worked options rather than a default.
While many competitors in the market pursued a blend of "lowest price" strategies, leading to drugstores that often resemble mini-markets, HelpNet chose a different approach, focusing on building long-term quality relationships with customers and positioning as an authority-driven player. To make that positioning hold across a large and varied network, Brandient recommended a clear brand architecture: keep a single HelpNet master brand while introducing an endorsed value-and-convenience format for the stores serving more price-sensitive neighborhoods — a structure that lets the chain compete on value where it must without diluting the equity of the leading brand. The architecture came with a shortlist of verified candidate names for the convenience format and a coherent logo system spanning the corporate brand, the pharmacy network, and the new format.
The new brand platform employs a generous graphic identity filled with brand properties, including an icon system that conveys professional competence, maturity, education, positivity, and a connection to the customer’s lifestyle. The deployment of the new, minimalist logo was accompanied by a revamped window treatment, which offers a lively depiction of the brand’s story. HelpNet effectively transformed its store windows into fascias, thereby ensuring brand consistency across a diverse range of outlets. This approach treats the store itself as the brand’s primary medium — allowing HelpNet to boost its visibility while standing out amidst the visual "noise" of a cluttered high-street landscape.
