Cellficient AI
Branding Nanoramic’s AI layer for battery-cell efficiency
Nanoramic Laboratories, the MIT spin-out behind the Neocarbonix electrode platform, had spent more than a decade turning advanced-materials science into a credible answer to the central question of its industry — how to make better lithium-ion cells at a lower cost. As the company moved to put artificial intelligence at the center of that work, it faced a decision that was commercial before it was creative. The new, software-led capability would not just be an internal engineering tool; to the investors and the Tier-1 battery makers and carmakers the company works with, it had to read as the natural next chapter — a materials-science business that now builds in software too. Having already built the masterbrand and its product family — FastCAP, Neocarbonix, Thermexit — Nanoramic asked Brandient to name and brand the offering as the fifth brand in that portfolio.
The brief Brandient set itself was therefore a positioning brief, not a labeling one. The name had to stand level with the signaling power of the rest of the portfolio and work as much for the masterbrand as for the offering beneath it — lifting the whole company’s standing as an AI player, not merely tagging a feature. Cellficient AI answers that directly: it fuses cell, the unit at the heart of the business, with efficient, the gain the intelligence delivers, and states AI plainly. Coined and ownable, immediately legible to the engineers and partners who matter most, it frames the capability as the intelligent route to a higher-performing, lower-cost cell — and gives the parent a confident claim to make.
The identity had to do the same job. Brandient built a visual system that sits naturally within the Nanoramic family yet reads as distinctly software-native, so a company rooted in chemistry and manufacturing would be taken seriously on the terrain of data and machine intelligence. Carried across the logo, a master presentation template, the web presence and a set of event and communication applications, it gave the new capability an identity of its own and handed Nanoramic a sharper instrument for the conversations that decide its future — with the customers who specify its materials and the investors who fund its growth — at the moment AI-driven demand was reshaping its market.
