Transilvania Investments
From a 1990s privatization-era SIF to a modern investment company
Transilvania Investments began as SIF Transilvania, one of the five financial investment companies created out of Romania’s post-communist privatization — successors to the Private Ownership Funds that in the mid-1990s passed a share of the nation’s industry from the state into portfolios managed on behalf of millions of ordinary citizens. A quarter of a century later, the Brașov-based company had become something its name no longer described: a diversified investor, listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange since 1999, with holdings across tourism, real estate, finance and industry.
That gap carried a real cost. An investment company trades on confidence, and "SIF" — a regulatory-era label, not a chosen name — told investors, counterparties and the companies it backed that this was a vehicle of the transition rather than an investment house with a forward mandate. When a change in legislation widened what the company could do with its capital and a new, more ambitious board took the helm, the mismatch between mandate and identity stopped being cosmetic: the brand was pricing the company as its past at the very moment its owners had committed it to a different future.
Brandient’s brief was to carry the company across that gap without spending the equity it already held — the regional know-how, network and reputation the business was built on. The answer was deliberately plain: Transilvania Investments. The name keeps the Transylvanian root that anchors the company’s credibility and states, without ornament, what the company now is — an investor, defined by what it does rather than by the legislation that created it.
The identity gives that repositioning the institutional register a listed fund needs to be taken seriously. An eagle drawn from the region’s own heritage — carrying a "T" in its negative space — stands for the long view an investor is paid to hold, for leadership and for principle, and reads at once as Transylvanian and as the emblem of a serious institution.
Shareholders approved the change, and in early 2022 the company debuted on the Bucharest Stock Exchange under its new symbol, TRANSI, alongside a new management team and a strategy built on its tourism, real estate, financial and industrial holdings, with an opening toward private equity and venture capital. A company long known for where it came from now trades as one defined by where it intends to go — the privatization era kept as origin story, and retired as identity.
