senia music
A logo with quiet wit — a cat contentedly playing the harp — for one of Romania’s leading musical-instruments retailers.
Senia Music was the retail brand of Senia Company 999, one of Romania’s larger importers and distributors of musical instruments and professional sound-and-light equipment — the company behind premium dealer relationships that stretched to Steinway & Sons. The strategic moment was its move from distribution into branded retail: a flagship Bucharest showroom that had to turn a wide catalog, from grand pianos to DJ rigs, into a place a customer could read, trust and return to. The brand had to make a distributor’s depth legible on a sales floor.
The problem was not that the store lacked stock; it was that the space could not be navigated. As Brandient put it plainly, the showroom was all white and unbounded — an uncontrolled space that was hard to take in, where a shopper had no sense of where one category ended and the next began. For a retailer whose value rests on guiding buyers through a technical, high-consideration purchase, an unreadable floor is a commercial cost: it slows the sale and undermines the confidence a serious instrument buyer needs before committing.
Brandient’s answer was a single governing device that doubled as the brand’s signature: a deep-blue band running around the store at a height that stayed clear of the merchandise. The band did the work of architecture the building did not — it defined the space and gave clarity and flow to the customer’s path, while carrying the department names that turned the floor into a wayfinding system. Blue information markers, counters and the showroom’s desks all extended the same identity, so that orientation and brand recognition were the same gesture. The point was the discipline imposed on the experience, not the color: the brand organized the act of shopping.
Every retail decision followed the same commercial logic. The checkout was rebuilt to feel like a welcoming reception rather than a back-of-house corner, because the moment of payment is the moment a buyer most needs reassurance, and a calm, branded cashier zone gives certainty at the point of purchase. Quotes from beloved composers, fixed onto otherwise bare columns and walls, were chosen as a deliberate relationship device — a reason for customers to identify with the store and to come back, which for a specialist retailer is the difference between a transaction and a clientele. The premium dealer relationships the company had earned, Steinway & Sons among them, were given their proper weight in the identity system rather than left to compete with it.
Holding the whole program together was the logo: a cat contentedly playing the harp, set in a flowing Senia script above the word MUSIC — a mark with enough wit and warmth to make a technical retailer feel human, and disciplined enough to scale from a storefront to a business card to a website. It went on to earn a Merit in Graphis Logo Design 8. The lasting result was not the award but the coherence beneath it: a distributor’s move into retail given a brand that made its showroom navigable, its premium partnerships legible, and its customers reasons to return.
