Qualians
A quality alliance, made visible — the name Brandient coined, then the brand it grew into.
Qualians began as a business decision, not a brand. By 2005 its founders had built the Romanian arm of a global training franchise — twice named Training Company of the Year — and were staging the largest business conferences the country had yet seen, hosting Philip Kotler that year and Jack Welch soon after. The question in front of them was one a board would recognize: how to convert that credibility into something more durable than a course catalog or a conference series. Their answer was a new kind of venture for the Romanian market — not another training shop, but an alliance of the market’s most reputable specialist trainers, across general management, marketing, branding, finance and tax, gathered into one trusted destination for the management class.
The wager behind the venture was range authority: win on the breadth and depth of the offer, and on a premium, memorable learning experience — never on price. Brandient’s assignment was to give that wager a name and a platform. From a wide field of alternatives, Brandient coined Qualians — a blend of quality and alliance — because it carried the founding idea intact: a bond of quality between the best specialists in the field and the managers who learn from them. The name did strategic work from day one, declaring the promise before the first course was sold.
Almost a decade later the brand faced a different problem: its own success had outgrown it. Known first for open courses and management training, Qualians had diversified steadily into consulting and organizational development, serving corporations navigating what the market had learned to call "the new normal." The risk was structural, not cosmetic. A brand built around courses was reading too small for a company selling transformation, and a portfolio broadening without internal order threatens the coherence a premium position depends on.
In 2014 Brandient rebranded Qualians as a mature umbrella brand. The real work was architectural: a corporate identity set above a family of solution sub-brands — spanning professional development, team alignment and transformational leadership — so the offer could keep widening without blurring what Qualians stands for. The identity evolved from a wordmark into a richer logo built to carry both trust and flexibility, and the proposition was compressed into one line: "Change how you learn. Learn how to change."
At the heart of the identity sits the pawn — in the right situation, the most powerful piece on the board — chosen because it tells the client’s own story: the everyday participant who, through learning, becomes something more. The Q itself is composed of chess pieces, the crowned pawn reads as growth and transformation, and the flexible illustration system carries the human warmth that separates relationship-led learning from commodity coursework.
Two decades on, the wager the name was built for has been vindicated. Qualians stands today as one of Romania’s largest training and development companies, and the alliance idea Brandient compressed into its name in 2005 is now, quite literally, its operating model: the exclusive Romanian partner of Harvard Business Impact, an affiliate of Harvard Business School — a partnership renewed and expanded in 2025 — and a member of Prosci’s global affiliate network. Few naming decisions are tested for twenty years; this one still describes the business exactly.
