HeyBlu
A digital-native consumer-credit brand, born from two market leaders
HeyBlu was created to own a moment that online shopping had left underserved in Romania: the point of purchase, where a shopper decides whether a basket is affordable now or worth postponing. It was launched as a Buy-Now-Pay-Later venture backed by two digital leaders — eMAG, the country’s leading e-commerce platform, and PayU, its leading online-payments processor, both part of the Naspers group — giving a brand-new financial brand something new lenders rarely have: instant credibility and a ready audience at the checkout.
The strategic problem was one of register. Consumer credit is a category people approach warily, wrapped in the language of banks, contracts and obligation; yet the promise of Buy-Now-Pay-Later is the opposite — lightness, flexibility, the freedom to buy on your own terms. A brand born to remove friction could not sound like the thing shoppers associate with friction. It had to feel less like taking out a loan and more like being handed a small, everyday convenience — while still carrying the trust that any money matter demands.
Brandient positioned HeyBlu as payment convenience delivered by digital leaders, with a seamless customer experience as the point of the brand rather than a feature of it. That positioning resolved the tension directly: the credibility came from the parentage and the technology behind it, so the brand itself was free to be warm, human and disarming. The name carried the whole idea in a single gesture. "HeyBlu" reads as a greeting — open, conversational, the friendly first word of a relationship rather than the fine print of a credit agreement.
The design followed the same logic. A distinctive, joyful digital icon anchored an identity built first for screens — the environment where the brand actually lives — and extended into a coherent system spanning the digital product, the corporate applications and the launch communication. Name, icon and voice converged into a single brand world that made a consumer-credit product feel approachable, turning a category people usually meet with caution into one they could meet with a smile.
