Evergent
New verbal and visual identity for a powerful Romanian financial entity
SIF Moldova was one of the five Financial Investment Societies born from Romania’s post-communist privatization — vehicles created to apportion and manage the state-owned assets handed back to citizens. By 2020 that origin had become a cage. The company had matured into a serious investor, but the three letters at the front of its name kept it filed under a closing chapter of Romanian capitalism. A 2019 change in legislation reclassified the company under the modern alternative-investment-fund regime and widened what it was allowed to do — which made the gap between the institution and its name impossible to ignore. An ambitious board decided it was time to act.
The governing insight was that this could not be a renovation. The problem did not live in the geographic suffix; it lived in the category prefix. "SIF" carried a reputational drag the company could manage but never escape from the inside, and the territory tag was almost beside the point. Tidying the existing name would have left the company inside an ecosystem it had outgrown. The only real move was a category escape — a wholly new name that left the SIF world entirely, with the legislative reclassification supplying the legitimate public story for the break.
The new name was Evergent, chosen from a multi-territory shortlist of coined candidates screened across markets. It joins the idea of emergence with the durability of ever — forward-looking and built to keep evolving — and it puts maximum distance between the company and the institutional register it was leaving behind. The mandatory descriptor became Investments, chosen over more generic options to anchor the new name in a clear professional category.
The visual identity followed the same logic of continuity through transformation. SIF Moldova’s old mark was an aggressive, attacking bull. The new sign keeps the same emblem but lifts it: the Moldavian cap de bour, the aurochs’s head that is the historic heraldic symbol of the region, predating the 1359 foundation of Moldavia. Brandient resolved it into a clean geometric symbol that reads as decisive, and the press has variously seen in it a bull crowned with precious stones — a reading the form invites, and one that suits an investor that turns raw assets into value.
The change ran across the whole verbal and visual system, and the most immediate dividend was internal: a visible lift in morale and professionalism, and new talent drawn to a name that finally matched the institution’s ambition.
The market followed. The renamed company went to its shareholders in late 2020, secured regulatory approval in March 2021, and swapped its long-standing SIF2 ticker for EVER at the end of that month. Trading under "Drive for performance", Evergent Investments has become one of the largest of the former SIFs, posting record consolidated assets of RON 4.17 billion at the close of 2025 — proof that a brand reconstruction done as escape rather than repair can change not just how an institution is seen but how far it can go.
