Fabryo
A craftsman’s name for a paint maker that had outgrown its own
Over a decade, a small Romanian paint and lacquer maker had quietly built something a challenger brand rarely earns: proof of quality. A collaboration with DuPont had put genuinely advanced products on Romanian shelves — a paint carrying a Teflon surface protector, new to the region — and its flagship decorative line had climbed to the top of the market. By the mid-2000s the company had grown into a category leader and had attracted institutional investment to fund the next stage. Everything about it had scaled except its name, which still belonged to the workshop it had started as.
That was the reconstruction Brandient was asked to lead. The predecessor name, "Guzu Chim," no longer matched the size, ambition or credibility the company had accumulated — it read as a local chemicals supplier at exactly the moment the business needed to present itself as a corporation a multinational or a modern-trade buyer could take seriously. The strategic question was not cosmetic: how to signal a decisive leap in stature without discarding the equity of the proven quality already banked under the old name.
The answer was a coined name, Fabryo, built from the Latin faber — craftsman, builder, maker. It kept craft at the center of the company’s story, honoring the hands-on expertise that had earned the market’s trust, while sounding unmistakably like a corporation rather than a workshop. The name let the business claim a bigger future without disowning the source of its credibility.
The visual identity translated the same idea into a robust, science-adjacent mark: the name set within vibrant hexagonal chains that read at once as chemistry and as creativity — the two things a modern paint company sells. Rolled out across the corporate identity, the rebrand carried a single, deliberate message to the trade: the name has changed, but the standards, the people and the commitment behind the products have not.
The bet paid off. Under its new brand the company consolidated its position as one of Romania’s leading paint producers — and its trajectory ultimately made it an acquisition target for a global industry leader.
