Junkers
Moving a category leader from purely rational arguments to a warm, emotional brand territory — without losing an inch of its technical credibility
Junkers, the heating brand belonging to the Bosch group, engaged Brandient for a brand-and-communication audit and a positioning and creative-communication strategy for its gas-boiler business. Working from an analysis of the brand’s existing materials, Brandient looked less at whether the communication worked and more at what kind of relationship it was building — and what it was leaving on the table.
Brandient’s read was counter-intuitive. The brand did not have a communication problem in the ordinary sense; its messaging was clear and competent. The opportunity lay elsewhere: by speaking almost entirely in rational, product-led terms, Junkers was forfeiting the emotional resonance — and the right to speak as the warm, reassuring authority of its category — that a market leader is uniquely positioned to claim. A purely technical voice can sell a boiler, but it cannot own the larger, more human idea the product actually delivers.
The strategic answer was a deliberately dual positioning that kept the brand’s rational equity intact while adding an emotional layer above it. On the rational side, Brandient consolidated the qualities the brand had already earned — warmth, durability, safety, freedom from worry, and considered design. On the emotional side, it opened a new territory built around human warmth, comfort, trust, harmony and beauty: the idea of warmth that sustains and protects life, expressed through the line "Junkers. Warmth for life." The brand was reframed to talk about warmth, comfort and the life lived inside the home — not about boilers, gas and water.
To make that territory tangible, Brandient gave the brand a guiding character: Junkers as one of the protective spirits of the house — a gentle, generous, trustworthy presence that looks after the people inside it. It was a way of holding a leader’s technical credibility and a genuinely warm human promise in the same brand, so that the rational reasons to buy and the emotional reasons to belong reinforced rather than competed with each other.
